Characterized by their exotic and tropical flavors, tiki cocktails gained popularity in the 1930s and 1940s, largely thanks to the efforts of Donn Beach and Trader Vic creating elaborate cocktails inspired by their travels in the South Pacific. The two proprietors developed a competitive relationship, developing and protecting secret recipes for their cocktail creations.
